# 3.5 - Transport Procedures

Procedures for conducting prison transports safely. All Corrections Officers must follow these steps every time a transport is initiated.

## Loadout

During transport, you must carry:

* Service pistol
* Taser
* Flashlight / Nightstick

If certified, you may also store a **SIG MCX** or **H\&K 416** in your glovebox or trunk.

## Transport Steps

<Steps>
  <Step title="Secure and load inmates">
    Soft cuff all inmates before placing them in the transport vehicle. Lock the vehicle once everyone is inside.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Notify remaining officers">
    If any Correctional Officers are still at the prison, radio them to let them know the transport is starting.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Coordinate with PD">
    Communicate with PD that you are ready to move out and follow their directions.

    <Warning>
      * If you are shot at, you may return fire.
      * **Do not** stop your vehicle.
      * If the transport vehicle is disabled, notify PD immediately.
    </Warning>
  </Step>

  <Step title="Assisting officers">
    When helping with a prison transport, equip yourself with your lethal pistol in case you are fired upon.

    <Note>
      You are only to fire to defend yourself. **Do not** pursue.
    </Note>
  </Step>

  <Step title="Arrival at the prison">
    If the scene is still active when you reach the prison, stop the bus at the gates. **Do not** drive inside if tailgating is possible.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Use of SMG or Rifle at the gates">
    While at the gates, **only if certified**, you may use your SMG or Rifle when:

    * Authorized by a Lieutenant+
    * Authorized by the SASP
    * You are being shot at by Class 3/4 (two-handed) weapons
    * Involved in a designated high-risk transport

  <Step title="Code 4 — enter intake">
    Once the situation is announced Code 4, drive the bus into the intake area.

    If needed, get the inmates medical attention and process them with PD.
