# 3.6 - Visitation Procedures

## Eligibility

* Visitation is allowed for regular inmates.
* For **HUT inmates**, visitations must be approved by **FIB/DOJ** first.
* All visitors must present **state-issued identification** to enter the prison.

## Visitor Search Procedure

  <Step title="Bring visitor to the airlock">
    All visitors must be searched before entering the prison area. Bring the visitor into the airlock hallway and perform the search.

    <Warning>
      If a visitor refuses the search, they are **not** allowed into the prison.
    </Warning>

  <Step title="Check for prohibited items">
    The following items are **not** allowed in visitation:

    * Weapons
    * Alcohol
    * Drugs (including marijuana)
    * Any other form of contraband

    <Note>
      State workers may carry registered firearms that you cannot legally purchase. You may confiscate these weapons, but they **must** be returned when the visitor leaves.
    </Note>

  <Step title="Handle illegal items">
    If any illegal items are found on the visitor:

    * Turn the visitor away from property and notify **PD** immediately.
    * If they refuse to leave, they are considered trespassing.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Log and store confiscated items">
    * Log all confiscated visitor items and their starting cash amount in `#visitation-log`.
    * Place items in the **evidence locker**.
    * Return items to the visitor when they leave.

    <Warning>
      Evidence is logged. **Do not** remove anything from the evidence locker unless it is being returned to the visitor. Removing evidence can result in disciplinary action up to and including termination.

## Inmate Search Procedure

Before an inmate enters the visitation center:

1. Perform a **full cavity search**.
2. Confiscate any potential contraband (phones, radios, drugs, weapons, etc.).
3. Log everything taken from the inmate, along with their starting cash amount, in `#visitation-log`.

## Escorting to Visitation

After searches are complete, a Correctional Officer will escort the visitors to the visitation area:

* **Inmates** — placed on the **north** side of the visitation room.
* **Visitors** — placed on the **south** side of the visitation room.

## Conjugal Visits

Conjugal visits are permitted under the following conditions:

* Must be scheduled with a **Captain or Warden**.
* Only permitted for **close family members** and **legal spouses**.
* Duration may be as long as needed, provided the visit was approved.

## Departure

When visitors are leaving:

1. Return all confiscated items to the visitor.
2. Verify their current cash amount against the starting amount logged in `#visitation-log`.
