Initial Response

Notify PD if you cannot get the situation under control

If a riot occurs, notify PD right away if you think you are not able to get the situation under control.
  • If you do go down, hit your panic button.
  • PD may reach out to you on the radio if a correctional officer does go down and you’re not aware of it. Let them know of the situation, and inform them how many inmates are around.
  • If you’re not able to get the situation under control, contact PD, via freq 1.00.
Example:
“PD from DOC, we currently have a riot occurring at the prison. 1 Correctional Officer is down and there are 4 inmates participating in the riot.”
It is important to ask for status checks!
If possible, try to get to the control room located on the second floor of the main cell block. Activate the lockdown, which will lock all doors in the prison and contact PD. You do not need to do this every time - read the severity of the situation, and your ability to get it under control.

Retreat and arm yourself if healthy

If you are still healthy, retreat to a safe area, and communicate with PD.If necessary, arm yourself accordingly:
  • If it is a riot, use non-lethal only.
  • If it is a Prison Break, use your Rifle/SMG if you are certified. If not, use your pistol.

Prison Break

In the case of a Prison break, attempt to lock any inmates into a cell. If they aren’t being compliant:
  • Immobilise them and hard cuff them.
  • Escort them to the cell block and place them in the cells.
  • Don’t waste your time chasing them. If you can’t catch them, just lock the door to the inside of the prison and let them run around in the yard.

After the Situation

Secure the inmates and check for contraband

When the situation is over, secure the inmates, ensure NO contraband is on their person.
  • Conduct a cavity search and seize any items they should not have.

Lock down the inmates

Put inmates in cells and lock the situation down.
  • If they start complaining about their time being locked up, remind them that they decided to riot.
  • They can be locked in their cell OR solitary confinement.
  • Take as long as needed to control the situation.

Add sentence time for participants

For inmates that participate in a riot, add 5 months to their sentence once the situation is under control.
