3.2 Ask Tell Make
The Ask, Tell, Make escalation model used alongside the use of force procedures when giving orders to inmates.
While following the use of force procedures, when giving orders to inmates you must also utilise the ‘Ask, Tell, Make’ model of escalating force. It follows a simple basis to allow the inmate to comply before force is used. First you ASK the individual to follow your order, then you TELL the individual to follow your order, and then you MAKE the individual to follow your order.
Following this dialogue, you may follow the escalation of force to ‘make’ the inmate follow your order by using a reasonable level of force.
